Summer 2015 Capacity-Building Workshop for J. Paul Getty Trust

This summer, Buff Kavelman was once again retained by the J. Paul Getty Trust to lead a capacity-building workshop for Mediterranean global heritage site directors from fourteen Balkan, Middle Eastern and North African countries as part of the Getty Conservation Institute’s MOSAIKON initiative. In addition to the ten countries who participated in the fall 2014 workshop in Alghero, Italy, site directors from Israel, Libya, Palestine and Tunisia were added to the list of participants this summer. This workshop focused on new options for fiscal sponsorships, “friends of” organizations and other philanthropic partnerships that would enable overseas donors to assist these cultural leaders in their efforts. As we hear steady news of rampant archaeological destruction and looting that threatens our shared global heritage, it is more important than ever to assist those with limited resources and in war-torn countries with their conservation work. The Kavelman Group was honored to be able to help these cultural leaders expand their ability to protect their national treasures.
