In September 2013, Buff Kavelman was elected to the Board of Free Speech for People, a national nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to challenge the misuse of corporate power and restore republican democracy to the people.
The organization was co-founded by John Bonifaz, recipient of the 1999 MacArthur Fellowship and former Executive Director of the National Voting Rights Institute, and Jeff Clements, former Assistant Attorney General and Chief of the Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. In 2012, Clements authored Corporations Are Not People, with a foreword by Bill Moyers.
