Supporting Philanthropy During the Pandemic

Adapting to the challenges of the pandemic, Buff Kavelman and co-chair Pat Nicholas, International Program Officer at the Carnegie Corporation of New York, have continued to develop an active, responsive program series for Philanthropy New York’s International Grantmakers Network (IGN)

Most recently, Buff and Pat organized a Zoom webinar on Responding to COVID-19 Globally. Dr. Una Osili, Associate Dean for Research and International Programs at Indiana University’s Lilly School of Philanthropy discussed a wealth of research and analysis on global philanthropic responses around COVID-19 with 85 IGN grantmakers.

Other recent IGN events have included a joint program on international funding trends with the Peace and Security Funders Group and an informal brown bag lunch for grantmakers to share best practices on working with intermediaries to build strong international partnerships.

Over the past year IGN programs have featured a wide range of guest experts from Indiana University’s Lilly School of Philanthropy, Dasra, the King Baudouin Foundation, the Peace and Security Funders Group, and the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law. Buff, Pat, and the IGN look forward to developing future programs both remote and on site that strengthen the role of philanthropy in an uncertain world.
